 “I knew that you liked me,” he said, “it was the way that you looked at me.”  
How often was she hearing that these days?  It was infuriating.  What were her eyes getting up to since she came to France?  Had they become promiscuous without informing her?  If I wanted to give someone ‘the eye’ it would never have been him, she thought after their date, as she remembered his floppy, lifeless, caramel-colored hair and matching caramel-colored framed glasses.
